Background: Chicken feather waste negatively impacts human health and the environment. One way to lessen the negative impact is by using chicken feathers as liquid organic fertilizer. The aim of this research is to analyze the differences in adding several types of local microorganisms to the quality of liquid organic fertilizer made from chicken feather waste.
Methods: This study uses experimental research with four treatments and six replications using a non-factorial completely randomized design (CRD). The independent variables are the types of local microorganisms, namely from pineapple skin, rice washing water, and banana stems. The dependent variables are the temperature, pH, organic carbon, color, and aroma. Data analysis used the Kruskal-Wallis test (significance level <0.05), followed by the Dunn test (significance level <0.05) if significant.
Results: The study found that the highly effective intervention was the addition of local microorganisms from pineapple peel, which produced yellow-colored fertilizer with a pleasant aroma, a temperature of 26.4 ℃, a pH of 4.19, and an organic carbon content of 0.49%.
Conclusions: The organic carbon content produced in this study did not meet the minimum technical requirements for liquid organic fertilizer established by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 261/KPTS/SR.310/M/4/2019, which is a minimum of 10%. Nevertheless, this study can play a role in organic waste management, and the research product can be categorized as a soil conditioner.
